Fears have been raised for a distressed woman in her 60s who was travelling barefoot in her pyjamas on a number 37 Lothian bus just after 5pm on Sunday.

The woman got off the bus  at Tesco in Penicuik around 5.30pm and has not been seen since.

Inspector Wendy Neilson said: “We are very concerned for this woman’s welfare and we are eager to trace her whereabouts.

“I would ask anyone who was in the Penicuik or Loanhead areas in the early morning of Sunday, October 15, and recognises the woman’s description, to get in touch with us as soon as possible

“I would also encourage the woman in question to make contact with police and let us know she’s okay.”

The woman was described as having dyed blonde hair and was wearing a black jacket over her pyjamas
