The Principal Edinburgh George Street and the show Alex Salmond:Unleashed raised over £22,000 for 20 charities this summer from the auctions held during the show. Each afternoon Mr Salmond took his daily guest out for afternoon tea at The Printing Press Bar & Kitchen and he auctioned the free places at the table to those in the audience. The day we were at the show he raised £800 for four people who then had afternoon tea with him and with his guest Professor Tom Devine.
The former First Minister hosted an array of guests at his show Alex Salmond: Unleashed including guests from the world of show business, politics and sport. Each day the money raised from the auction was donated to the guest’s chosen charity.
Commenting on the money raised for charity, Mr Salmond said: “I am delighted and overwhelmed by the generosity shown at Alex Salmond…Unleashed. We raised over £22,000, which now has benefited 20 good causes in Scotland, across the U.K. and internationally. I would like to thank my special guests, all those who donated so kindly, as well as all the fantastic charities nominated for their continued commitment and hard work. The whole team is also extremely grateful to The Principal Edinburgh George Street Hotel, for the magnificent Afternoon Teas they donated for auction.”
Andreas Maszczyk, General Manager of The Principal Edinburgh George Street, added: “We were delighted to host afternoon tea for the run of the show and are thrilled that so much money was raised for such a wide range of worthwhile charities. We were honoured that Alex Salmond chose The Principal Edinburgh George Street, not only to be the venue for afternoon tea, but also the stage at the Assembly Rooms, which was displayed with our armchairs and furniture to resemble the reception area of our hotel.”
The total amount raised for the 20 charities was £22,350. The charities that will benefit from the afternoon tea auction are:
