Police have released images of a man they wish to trace in connection with an ongoing investigation into an attempted robbery in the city centre.

The incident took place around 2.35pm on Tuesday 5 September in St Andrew Square, when a man approached a female from behind and attempted to grab a purse from her hands.

Officers are keen to trace a man who they believe may be able to assist their investigations.He is described as white, 5ft 8-10ins tall, of medium build, wearing a dark jacket, denim jeans, black boots and gloves and was carrying a black rucksack with silver trim.

Detective Constable Sheila Silvagni of Gayfield CID said, “This was an extremely frightening experience for the victim who thankfully managed to keep hold of her possessions and was uninjured.

“We are eager to trace the man pictured in connection with this incident and would urge anyone who recognises him to contact us as soon as possible.”
