Stand-in skipper Eric Riss powered to 14 points as pace-setting Edinburgh Monarchs moved four points clear of the chasing pack.

Their comfortable 53-39 win over Berwick Bandits moved the Armadale men to 44 points with Ipswich Witches second on 40 and Glasgow Tigers third on 39 but they have four matches in hand over Edinburgh and Ipswich.

The home side enjoyed a perfect start with Rory Schlein taking the win with experienced Theo Pijper keeping Glasgow Tigers skipper Aaron Summers at bay to take second place.

Bandits, who traditionally struggle at Armadale, battled hard but were eight points adrift after six races and were not able to put any real pressure on the league pace-setters.

That’s despite former Monarchs racer Jye Etheridge claiming four points by coming second in a tactical ride in Heat 12.

And the home side finished off Bandits with a 5-1 in the second last race with Max Clegg earning three points and young Aussie Josh Pickering holding off experienced Bandits rider David Howe, a former Scottish Open champion.
