The world’s first ever food and drink Business Improvement Development (BID) group has been created in East Lothian.

Scotland’s Food & Drink County will be launched at the Royal Highland Show, Edinburgh.

The move allows buyers the chance to buy collaboratively from East Lothian’s suppliers for the first time.

East Lothian has a thriving food and drink sector with a reputation for delivering quality produce.

From flour to beef to rapeseed oil, the rich farmlands of East Lothian produce some of the finest food in Scotland.

It is also home to one of Scotland’s finest malt whisky distilleries and the region also produces gin, beer and cider.

The county boasts a plentiful supply of freshly-landed fish and seafood and has seen success in less traditional produce including spices, oils, ice-cream and chocolate.

The East Lothian Food & Drink Business Improvement District (BID), backed by the local authority.

Louise Elder, producer of Black & Gold Rapeseed Oil from crops grown on her East Lothian farm and who is leading the group, said: “By working together, we can create a collective identity, a more vibrant economy and a sustainable future for our businesses.”
