Police have issued the following statement on behalf of the family of Jaymie Stuart Hall.

Mr Hall sustained a number of serious injuries on Saturday, May 27, during a disturbance in Dumbryden Gardens.  He was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treated, however he sadly passed away a short time later.

In a statement issued through Police Scotland, Mr Hall’s family said:  “Jaymie was a much loved father, son and brother. It breaks our hearts to have lost him in such tragic circumstances but he will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the NHS staff who tried in vain to save Jaymie and also the police for all their hard work and the support they have given us over the last few days.

“We ask to be left to grieve in private at this time.”

An investigation was launched by Police Scotland’s Major Investigations Team and a 41-year-old man was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with Mr Hall’s death.

He appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday, May 30, and has now been remanded to custody.

Detective Inspector David Pinkney of the Major Investigations Team said:  “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with Jaymie’s family as they come to terms their loss at this difficult time.

“We are still conducting enquiries surrounding Jaymie’s death and I would ask anyone with information to make contact with the Major Investigations Team at Leith Police Station, quoting incident number 5232 of May 27.”

Chief Inspector Helen Harrison, Local Area Commander for South West Edinburgh, said:
“I would like to thank the local community in Dumbryden Gardens for their support as this enquiry has progressed.

“There will continue to be additional patrols in the local area in the coming days and weeks and we are currently working with our partners at City of Edinburgh Council regarding any concerns from the local community in order for them to feel safe in their local area.”
