Sam Masters revved-up for his defence of the Harrisons Scottish Open title by coming third in the Simon Lambert Testimonial at King’s Lynn.
Belle Vue rider Kenneth Bjerre won the event which was part of Masters’ build-up to Friday’s season-opener at Armadale (tapes-up 7.15pm).
He will be joined at the West Lothian track by former team-mate Justin Sedgmen who was a double Premier League title winner with Monarchs.
The Australian, who now rides for Manchester-based Belle Vue Aces, wants to win the star-studded individual meeting.
Sedgmen said: “The field looks really strong. There are some big names in there and it will be a good test to start the season.”
He added: “I had two very successful seasons with Edinburgh and I hope one day I can return.”
Meanwhile, Berwick Bandits missed out on the Tyne/Tweed Trophy after being beaten 55-35 at Newcastle Diamonds after a 45-45 tie in the first leg.
Scott Courtney, Berwick’s co-promoter, said: “Newcastle are a different prospect on their own track.
“After they rode so well at our place (Berwick) on Saturday it was always going to be a tough one.”
He added: “We always win, lose or draw as a team but it was great to see Lewis Bridger do so very well, taking two wins, including one which wrecked the maximums of both Steve Worrall and Robert Lambert in a great Heat 13.”
