Monarchs racer Max Clegg, one of the new names set to appear at The Ben Fund Bonanza in Glasgow

Edinburgh Monarchs racer Max Clegg has been added to the line-up for The Ben Fund Bonanza at Glasgow on March 12.

Meanwhile, former Glasgow Tigers racer James Sarjeant is trying to stay positive in the face of two pieces of bad luck.

He thought he would be riding for Coventry Bees in the Premiership. but that has been dashed with the Midlands club pulling out.

Sarjeant said “I’ve never done it before and it’s obviously a good meeting to ride in. I’ve been to watch them. So I was pleased and excited when I got accepted to ride.”

James is also happy that it is being staged at a track he knows well having been a Tiger in 2015.

He said: “I met a lot of good people up there so it will be nice to see some old friends and management. I’ve still got a few sponsors up there. I can’t wait for it.”

The Ben Fund Bonanza will be a tough meeting to do well in but he hopes to impress and find a team slot somewhere.

He said: “I had talks with a few teams. I didn’t turn anyone down but it turned out that plans changed and averages didn’t allow me to fit. I’m just unlucky really, it’s a shame when you are progressing year by year and this happens. They should be able to protect British riders more.”

On Coventry pulling out at the weekend, Sarjeant said: “I’m not worrying about it, though I’ve spent quite a lot on my bikes this year. I went practising on Sunday and blew an engine so it was a pretty unlucky time for me.

“Obviously, I’m disappointed but there are six other riders who will say the same. You’ve just got to keep going haven’t you?”

Additional names added to the Bonanza line-up are Stuart Robson and Nike Lunna, with one name to be announced this weekend by Paul Ackroyd.
