Police have cordoned off the entrance to Number 7 Scotland Street in Edinburgh’s New Town today following the discovery of a man’s body in the building at 5.30am this morning.
A disturbance was reported and police say that there are suspicious circumstances and that they are treating the matter as homicide.
Police have asked for anyone with information to come forward, but anyone we spoke to just after 12 noon had nothing to say. Police will hold a press conference at the address at 1.30pm.
Forensic officers are on the scene and a press conference will be held at 1.30pm. Meantime Detective Chief Inspector Keith Hardie of the Major Investigations Team said in a press release: “We have found a body in suspicious circumstances, which has sustained significant injuries.
“It is being investigated at the same level as a homicide, although until the result of the post mortem we cannot commit to this.
“With this in mind it is imperative that we trace those involved in this incident as soon as possible.
“I would urge anyone who was in the Scotland Street area on the morning of Friday, December 2, to get in touch with us immediately.”
Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
