We cannot resist sharing another photo from the Standard Life Opening Event on Sunday night. Of course there were some in the audience who did not enjoy the event or the organisation of it, (or the buses afterwards!) but we think that as a visual and musical feast it was extraordinary.

You can see more of our photos here on Facebook.

The sweetest tweet we saw was one from Festival Director Fergus Linehan:

Police in Edinburgh confirmed that it was a 45-year-old man died after a tree fell on a tent as he slept in Dean Village.

Emergency services were called to an area of woodlands on the south bank of the Water of Leith, accessed from Miller Row, around 3.30am on Saturday 6 August.

The man, originally from the Glasgow area but currently homeless, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A 35-year-old man, who was also sleeping in the tent, suffered minor injuries.

Officers have consulted with forestry experts who concluded that the tree fell as a result of natural occurrences.

Inspector Neill Whiteside of Drylaw said: “This appears to be a tragic set of circumstances which have led to a man losing his life, and his next of kin have now been informed.”

A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

The team at Debenhams Edinburgh have been undertaking another summer of fundraising for BBC Children in Need this week, with a special guest paying a visit in store.

Kind-hearted colleagues at Debenhams Edinburgh were delighted to welcome Pudsey in store, to kick off its 2016 fundraising, in which they hope to raise more than ever before to support disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.

On Sunday 7 August from 12pm to 2pm, Pudsey visited the store, to say hello and have photos with local children from across Edinburgh.

Store manager, Karen Smibert commented: “Debenhams has supported BBC Children in Need for six years now, raising over £1,600,000 across the UK. We all do what we can and I and the team had a great time at our Pudsey Party. It was a great opportunity to have some fun with our customers, welcome our special guest and most importantly support a great cause that we are all passionate about.”

Stefanie Rees, Commercial Partnerships Account Manager at BBC Children in Need said: “BBC Children in Need is hugely grateful to Debenhams Edinburgh for its continuing support. Holding an event like a Pudsey Party is a very creative way to have lots of fun and help raise much needed funds to support disadvantaged children and young people throughout the UK.”

More than a dozen musicians from the Melbourne Ska Orchestra joined up with Fringe visitors to form a ska conga on the Edinburgh trams.

The band, which includes Kilmarnock singer Steven Montgomery who is performing in Scotland for the first time after leaving for Oz 20 years ago, are at the Fringe to promote their latest album Sierra-Kilo-Alpha.

They entertained festival-goers and commuters at York Place while they waited for a tram to take them across the city.

The band, which is at the Gilded Balloon until 12 August, is getting out and about all round the city playing impromptu concerts and getting the public involved – singing, playing and dancing.

Lead singer Nicky Bomba said: “We are just loving it here in Edinburgh – what a great vibe. The Scottish sense of humour and the Aussie one is very similar so we are having a fantastic time.

“Getting out on the trams and on the streets is an amazing experience and loads of fun. People just love getting involved and dancing whenever we start to play. It looks like being the most fantastic week.”

Melbourne Ska Orchestra peform at 1800 nightly until Friday (12th August 2016) at the Teviot Hall Gilded Balloon.
