An investigation is underway after a dumper truck was stolen and £80,000 worth of  damage was caused to a sewage plant in Midlothian.

Thieves broke into the premises on Station Road, Gorebridge, between 12.30pm on Saturday and 7.30am on Monday.

They also attempted to steal a JCB digger, forklift digger  and the dumper truck was found abandoned near the site but the suspects are still at large.

Sergeant Stuart Aitchison said: “As a result of this break in, the attempted theft of several plant vehicles and the successful theft of one dumper truck, approximately £80,000 worth of damage has been caused and we are pursuing various lines of inquiry to trace whoever was responsible.

“If you remember seeing any suspicious activity around the site over the weekend or in the early hours of Monday morning then please contact police immediately.”
