“Pizza Delique” focuses on the pervasive issue of rape and sexual abuse, a persistent undercurrent within our society that, we believe, has been underrepresented in our media and in terms of a police response.
As students at Manchester University for the past 3 years, and as residents of its student suburb, Fallowfield during that time, it has been shocking to hear consistent reports of cases of rape and other forms of sexual abuse, not excluding instances in which close friends or friends of friends were directly affected. This is, of course, a much more widespread issue – just a glance at the statistics provided by Rape Crisis UK reveals proof of this.
The play then endeavours to tackle that issue head-on, exploring the true subjective horror of the situation and attempting to explore the social causes of such victimisation, with a view to the potential solutions that could be sought.
The play is backed by the Woman’s Support Project, a huge organisation working to improve the lives of victims of violence and sexual abuse.
We feel extremely passionate about tackling this problem and are very keen to get this subject matter talked about with as much engagement and among as many different groups of people as possible. The play will be performing during August as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, between the 22nd and 28th, starting each night at 9:25 PM in St. Augustine’s Church. The profits that we receive from box office sales will be distributed among rape crisis bodies and women’s support centres.
Please join us, see the play, judge the content for yourself and help us to generate and fan the flame of the dialogue over this incredibly important issue.
