International Missing Children’s Day will be observed on 25th May 2016 and involves a network of 22 countries who will share information and images of missing children to assist ongoing investigations worldwide.

Police Scotland along with the United Kingdom Missing Person Bureau are supporting the Missing People Charity in The Big Tweet 2016.

The Big Tweet for Missing Children is an online event hosted by Missing People and for 24 hours a different appeal is tweeted every half hour from the Charity, encouraging #TeamBigTweet.

Ultimately the intention is to bring missing children to safety and provide information for the family and investigators. Over 140,000 children and young people go missing throughout the United Kingdom each year. Since last year’s Big Tweet 2015 event 19 of the children featured in appeals have been found.

As part of this years Big Tweet event Sandy Davidson from Scotland will be featured. Sandy went missing from his grandparents garden in Irvine on 23 April 1976 and has not been traced. More details about Sandy Davidson are include in the missing person section of the website.

Speaking about the event ACC Williams said: “The Big Tweet 2016 helps raise awareness of all missing children throughout the world. Police Scotland fully supports International Missing Children’s Day and the work of the Missing People charity to bring back all missing children safely”.

The Missing People Charity can be contacted by phone on 116 000. All calls are free and the line is staffed 24/7
