When the carrier bag charge was introduced, it had an intended side benefit of raising funds for charity.
At Tesco they allow shoppers to vote for the charities which will benefit from the money raised from all the 5p charges paid for plastic bags.
In Edinburgh East they have chosen three charities : Braidwood Bikepark Group (SKELF Bike Skills Park project), The Venchie Children and Young People’s Project, and Friends of Inverleith Park.
If you shop in Tesco before 6 March then you can have your say on which of these charities should get the £12,000. There are two other grants of £10,000 and £8,000 available to environmental and greenspace projects.
