President of Edinburgh Chamber, Scott Black thanked David for his important contribution and wished him well with his future plans: “David’s passion and leadership has underlined the Chamber’s central role in positioning Scotland’s capital city as a world-class business centre. Core to that drive has always been supporting all of our members’ growth ambitions.”

David said: “I am extremely proud of what the Chamber has achieved over the past five years. As the Chamber reaches its 230 anniversary it is clear we are as relevant to the city’s vibrant business community today as we have ever been. It has been an exciting five years and it is now time for me to pursue the next stage in my career.”

MacAreavey was Interim Chief Executive at Essential Edinburgh in 2011 and worked at Ernst & Young for a couple of years as Director of Business Development.

She also ran various catering outlets and a restaurant at one time. As Scottish Businesswoman of the Year in 1998, she is perhaps now a contender for the top job at Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce.
