Blipfoto the daily photo journal website is yet again in danger of folding.
The site was founded in Edinburgh by Joe Tree and Graham Maclachlan in 2004, but following some financial difficulties last year the site is now partnered by Polaroid. Everyone heaved a sigh of relief at that point, thinking that the big name would save the site for the many blippers who contribute to it. These include big names like Mike Russell the MSP for Argyll and Bute who is an avid follower and whose photos are prolific and often very pretty.
Sadly the financial model has not proved a success, and now there is a crowdfunding site set up by BlipFuture to try and save the community. The funding round will end on 1 March 2016, but those behind the bid are reporting to the existing owners at 11 January as to their progress. They say that every penny counts at this stage – from those contributing the minimum of £10 to larger donations.

This time a financial contribution will mean that the community of Blippers own the site, and there are various perks offered. To date the crowdfunding effort has raised £112,680 and the goal is to raise £180,000. Apparently the running costs of the site are about £120,000 per year and it is hoped to cover these by charging membership fees of about £32 a year.
