A student from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, has been awarded a top radiography prize.
Hannah Swanson (22), won the FujiFilm Medical Systems Award for Academic Excellence. The Award is presented to a final year student who has achieved the highest marks within the entire radiography division.
Hannah, who has just graduated from Queen Margaret University with a first class BSc (Hons) Therapeutic Radiography, was presented with her award by Anne Laurie, Programme Leader for Therapeutic Radiography at QMU.
Hannah now works as a Therapeutic Radiographer at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. As part of the radiotherapy team in the department of clinical oncology, Hannah’s role involves radiotherapy treatment and care of cancer patients.
Commenting on her radiography award and QMU degree, Hannah said: “I’m really proud to have won this award and delighted that all of my hard work over the four years of my QMU degree has paid off.
“The radiography degree at QMU really appealed to me because of the diverse range of clinical work placement opportunities it offers. I was able to get a work placement at Raigmore Hospital as part of my degree and this experience ultimately helped me secure my job here in Inverness.
“I needed a recognised therapeutic radiography degree to secure this role, so QMU has provided me with the necessary qualification to kick start my career in the profession and become registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
“My advice to prospective radiography students would be to get experience in a local radiotherapy department and check out what the profession actually involves to see whether they would enjoy working in the profession.”
