Police are appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision which occurred in the Haymarket area of Edinburgh earlier today.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Edinburgh are currently in attendance following a road traffic collision in Palmerston Place.
“The incident occurred today (Monday, August 3) at around 4.30pm when a black Vauxhall Corsa struck a cyclist and a pedestrian. The car then came to a halt when it struck a set of traffic lights.
“The pedestrian suffered serious head injuries and has been taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by the Scottish Ambulance Service where they are currently being treated for their injuries. The cyclist was uninjured.
“Enquiries are currently ongoing and a 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.”
“Road closures are in place between Grosvenor Street and Chester Street. The public are thanked for their patience at this time.”
“Any witnesses to this incident are requested to contact Police Scotland on 101.”
