The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a dog with a microchip registered to an address in Stoke-on-Trent was abandoned outside a Midlothian supermarket. Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted on Monday (3 August) by a member of the public who noticed the Staffordshire bull terrier tied up next to Sainsbury’s in Straiton.
The white and tan dog, who is microchipped with the name Tyson, is now in the care of the charity’s animal rescue and rehoming centre in Balerno.
Senior Inspector John Toule said, “Tyson was found at the side of the store near the loading bay where there is no CCTV.
“The customer service staff at Sainsbury’s put out several tannoy announcements but no one came forward. It is thought Tyson was tied up outside the store for most of the day. Unfortunately the contact numbers registered to his chip are unrecognised.
“It is possible that the owners have moved from Stoke-on-Trent to the Midlothian area and the details on the chip have not been updated. We would like to hear from anyone who recognises Tyson or has any
information.”
Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006. Anyone found guilty of doing so could be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
