The planning committee granted permission yesterday for the hotel forming part of the St James Quarter development, going against the recommendations of the council officials.
The design is based on ribbons as you can see from this photo.
The email response from the developer’s agent shows how the hotel will appear when viewed from George Street:
There will be a viewing platform on the 12th floor offering another high-level view of the city.

Granny Green – world / folk trio of trumpet, accordion and tuba will play today in the Grand Gallery at the National Museum of Scotland.
This Glasgow-based trio of trumpet, accordion and tuba play brand new and quirky sounds, bringing a contemporary feel to their world folk music. For this lunchtime concert, they have arranged a song called ‘The Rising Sun’ inspired by Japan, which the Grannies hope to bring to life with a flügel solo, wind chimes, a rain stick and hopefully some audience participation!

Our Festival tip today is to go to the Fruitmarket Gallery on Market Street to see the Phyllida Barlow exhibition.
The gallery announced how delighted they were that she had agreed to the exhibition in Edinburgh: “She is making a new series of large sculptures that will engulf the Gallery in art, spilling from the upper gallery over the staircase and into the ground floor, enticing the visitor from the street and into the world of her visual imagination.”
