The Chief Executive of the City of Edinburgh Council received an honour in the New Year Honours list at the beginning of the year, but chose to wait for Her Majesty the Queen to come to Edinburgh to receive it.  She is now formally known as Dame Sue Bruce DBE, Chief Executive of the City of Edinburgh Council.

Today at the Palace of Holyroodhouse Dame Sue and her husband John with an extended family group which included her mother and brother, attended the investiture ceremony. The Edinburgh Reporter was there to meet her when she came out of the Abbey Strand Gate with the all important box containing the DBE.

Dame Sue said after the ceremony: “This honour is something that I never expected to receive and as a lifelong public servant it is a tremendous privilege. I thank everybody that I have worked with during my time at the City of Edinburgh Council, and all those I have served with in the past – this medal truly is as much for them as it is for me.”

Husband John said he was extremely proud of her, although he joked he had to be up especially early today with Dame Sue and her mother in the house!

Dame Sue is about to step down from her position at the council at the end of July. She continued: “I will retire from local government later this year and I have been hugely proud to dedicate myself to that for almost 40 years. My time at the City of Edinburgh Council has been challenging exciting and undoubtedly the highlight of my career.”
