The Royal Mile is closed today from 10.45 till around 1pm. But it is for a very good reason!
There will be a procession from Johnston Terrace which is closed from 9.45am. The Walk the last mile with Matty will then proceed down Castlehill, Lawnmarket, High Street, Canongate and Horse Wynd which will be closed from 10.45am.
Lothian Buses services 6 and 35 will be diverted. See this map courtesy of Lothian Buses and check the service status here on the Transport for Edinburgh website.
The procession which is taking place is the last mile in the Road to Change undertaken by Matty who is completing a 10,000 mile walk visiting 29 countries around Europe. Matty was a survivor of sexual abuse and started his walk on 31 May 2013 to raise awareness about sexual abuse and demand that European countries recognise the rights of their children.
He has been invited to speak at the United Nations, met Pope Francis and was named Top Scot 2014 at the Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Awards towards the end of last year.
If you would like to Walk the Last Mile with Matty you are encouraged to register in advance here.
