Hundreds of NHS supporters will stage a protest at the Scottish Tory party conference tomorrow over David Cameron’s refusal to use his veto to protect the NHS from TTIP. This follows a protest earlier today at Holyrood as Lord Livingston gave evidence to European External Relations committee on TTIP.
There is also some community activism taking place in Edinburgh as you can see from the photos from Drumbrae here.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, Leader of the Labour party Jim Murphy and Patrick Harvie leader of the Scottish Greens are united in backing the call on David Cameron to use his veto to protect the NHS from the EU-US trade deal called TTIP.
Legal advice commissioned by the union Unite has raised serious concerns over the impact of the trade deal. The legal advice from Dr Kyriaki-Korina Raptopoulou confirmed that there are clear dangers arising from TTIP that will impact the NHS unless David Cameron uses his veto to deliver a robust carve-out.
Linda Clarke, Peoples’ NHS activist and a former NHS worker said: “Our nation is united and our message to David Cameron is clear and easy to act on – use your veto and protect our NHS.
“We represent millions of Scots who believe it’s simply wrong for the NHS to be part of a US trade deal.
“There is now even expert legal advice which exposes the threat that TTIP poses to our NHS. It is time for David Cameron to act and use his veto to get the NHS out of TTIP.
