Police in Midlothian have recovered four vehicles that were stolen from outside their owner’s address on Monday.

The cars were taken from various addresses in in Newtongrange, North Middleton, Roswell and Bonnyrigg.

The total value of the property recovered is in excess of £50,000.

Two men, aged 19 and 26, have been arrested in connection with the thefts and will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, January 26.

Three of the four cars were taken when their owners left them unattended while defrosting in cold weather.

Chief Inspector Kenny Simpson, Local Area Commander for Midlothian, said:  “These arrests were a particular priority for Police Scotland, as officers believed these cars were being used to commit other offences.

“These men took advantage of the cold weather to deprive people of their cars and the owners are delighted to have their vehicles returned to them. I would like to thank the public for their help and support in this investigation and would again urge motorists to be vigilant and ensure they do not leave their vehicles insecure and unattended during this cold snap”

“Anyone with information regarding these incidents should contact Police Scotland immediately on 101 or through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
