2011_10 Police signs 6

Police are appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision at Stenhouse Cross last night.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:20pm when a Vauxhall Corsa, driven by a 39-year-old female, travelling north on Stenhouse Drive was involved in a collision with a 56-year-old female pedestrian.

The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and later transferred to the Western General Hospital where she is considered to be in a critical condition.

The road was closed for three and a half hours following the incident.

Sergeant Alan Stewart said: “Although the driver stopped at the scene, we are appealing for anyone with information or who may have witnessed this incident to contact Police Scotland.

“We are eager to establish exactly what happened and our thoughts are with the female pedestrian’s family at what must be a difficult time.”
