Police are now appealing for information in connection with a murder after a man who was attacked in Wester Hailes passed away this morning.
The 31-year-old was the victim of a serious assault in Dumbryden Gardens at around 4.30pm on Friday 22nd August.
He was transferred to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and was in a critical condition over the weekend, before succumbing to his injuries
Police Scotland has been carrying out extensive enquiries and is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward
Detective Inspector Grant Johnston, who is leading the enquiry, said: “This is now a murder and the Major Investigation Team are progressing all enquiries.
“A member of the public may hold a key piece of information that could assist with the investigation, and we are appealing to anyone who saw anything in and around Dumbryden Gardens on Friday afternoon to get in touch as soon as possible.
The Area Commander Chief Inspector Mark Rennie stated: “We have been carrying out high-visibility patrols in the Wester Hailes area and will continue to do so. We are keen to reassure residents that, at this stage, the incident appears to be isolated.”
