SUMMER SEASIDE SCIENCE AT THE SCOTTISH SEABIRD CENTRE
The multi-award winning visitor attraction, the Scottish Seabird Centre, North Berwick, is hosting a jam-packed programme for all ages during the summer featuring a ‘survival of the fittest’ theme to celebrate the Commonwealth Games, Homecoming and John Muir and now you can win one of two Family passes which the Centre have offered to The Edinburgh Reporter to give away to you if you are picked as one of the winners. These are worth £25 each and will cover entrance for two adults and up to two children and one will be given to each of two winners.
Professor Egghead will host two different science shows to keep visitors young and old inspired about making the most of the great outdoors. At the Seaside Science Show (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 14:00) the impact of humans on the natural world will be explored, with top tips on how we can ensure our survival. At The Survival of the Fittest (Saturdays and Sundays, 14:00), Teresa the turtle, Tommy the tern and Percy the puffin will help the Professor explore what it takes to survive in the wild.
Fresh from her successful sessions at Scotland’s first ever Puffin Fest, Tickles the Clown will also be uncovering the secrets of survival. At The Survival of the Fittest (Fridays, 14:00) she will explore healthy bodies and sustainable food sources, and at her Clownathon (Saturdays 16:00) there will be games, magic and winners’ medals.
GJ Wildlife will lead family-friendly photography sessions on Sundays (12:00) with top tips on how to capture amazing images of wildlife in their natural habitat. There will also be a 24-hour photography challenge, with all the best images forming part of a Survival of the Fittest collage.
Caroline Vevers, Events and Exhibitions Officer at the Scottish Seabird Centre, said: “We have really been inspired by all the amazing things taking place this year – our Survival of the Fittest theme gave us the opportunity to celebrate John Muir, the Commonwealth Games and Homecoming all in one!
“In addition to all the interactive shows taking place there’s also special trails, puzzles and crafts all day, every day in the Discovery Centre, plus, of course, the chance to zoom in on the amazing wildlife action with the interactive live cameras on the Firth of Forth islands. It’s a brilliant time of year to use the cameras and to see the survival of the fittest in action before our very eyes.”
Events run until Sunday 7 September, 2014. More information here on the centre’s website.
No booking is required: visitors should request their tickets for the shows when they purchase their Discovery Centre tickets from the Admissions Desk.
