2011_10 Police signs 11

Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault which took place between 4pm and 4.50pm yesterday in Southhouse Broadway.

A 42-year-old man was walking in the area when he approached the junction near to the Ladbrokes betting store.

At this time a male exited a silver car, approached the man and struck him to the face, causing him to fall to the ground.

The suspect then continued to kick the man while he was on the ground before making off from the area.

Following the attack, the victim was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he is being treated for injuries to his arm and face.

Officers are following a positive line of enquiry in relation to this assault and anyone who can assist with their investigation is asked to come forward.

Detective Constable John McShane said: “The victim has suffered some very painful injuries to his upper body and we are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the attack take place.

“Similarly, anyone who saw anything suspicious in Southhouse Broadway on Tuesday afternoon, or who has any other information relevant to our enquiry is also asked to contact police immediately.”
