Police in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses following an assault and robbery in the Lochend area of the city on Tuesday evening.
The victim, a 27 year old French man, was walking north on Lochend Road, between Hermitage Park Grove and Restalrig Terrace at around 9.35pm to 10pm when he was approached by the male suspect.
The suspect demanded that the victim hand over his possessions while producing a kitchen knife from his jacket pocket.
The victim handed over his rucksack, which contained a number of items including a MacBook Pro, Nokia mobile phone, Adidas football boots and a small amount of cash. The suspect continued south on Lochend Road and was lost to sight.
The suspect is described as white, 20 to 30 years old, 5ft 11in, stubble, shaved head, grey or black tracksuit bottoms, dark grey or black hooded top with light coloured sleeves.
Officers are now keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this robbery.
PC Andy Gamble from Police Scotland said: “The man was not injured as a result of this incident, but he has lost a significant amount of personal property and was fearful when he saw the knife being produced.
“If anyone recognises the description of the suspect or was in the area of Lochend Road between numbers 61 and 137 at the time, then they should contact police.”
Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
