A 29-year-old man who subjected a number of women to domestic abuse over a prolonged period has been jailed.
Gareth Stemp has been sentenced to 30 months after being found guilty of ten domestic abuse related charges, specifically, eight counts of Assault and two counts of Assault and Abduction. The offences against the four victims go back to December 2004.
Stemp is already serving time in prison for domestic related offences and the 30 month sentence will run concurrently with his present sentence.
Detective Inspector Dougie Moran said: “We welcome this sentence of Gareth Stemp, who subjected his former partners to a campaign of terror and abuse. One of the victims was pregnant at the time of the assault. We hope this sends out a clear message that Police Scotland does not tolerate domestic violence.
“This enquiry was conducted by Edinburgh’s Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit and is an acknowledgement of the excellent work carried out under the umbrella of Police Scotland tackling Domestic Abuse in collaboration with partner agencies.”
Anne Marie Hicks, Procurator Fiscal for Domestic Abuse said: “Gareth Stemp carried out these despicable acts in a consistent pattern of violence against four separate partners over eight years.
“He has now been brought to justice and has been convicted and sentenced by the court accordingly.
“Victims can have confidence that their cases will be handled by the police and our prosecutors with sensitivity and the utmost professionalism.”
