A man going out to the corner shop near his home was the victim of a serious assault on Friday afternoon.
Police in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses following the incident which happened sometime between 2.30pm and 3pm on Friday (4 October 2013) in the Hailesland Grove area.
The 52-year-old man left his home address in Murrayburn Gardens and made his way to Michael’s Corner Shop.
While somewhere in the vicinity of the store, the victim became involved in an altercation with two men who then attacked him.
Following the assault, the man made his way home before going to the Royal Infirmary at around 12.50am the following morning.
He has since been transferred to the Western General Hospital where he continues to be treated for serious injuries to his head and face.
Police were contacted following the victim’s admission to hospital and are now urging anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward.
There is currently no description of the suspects.
Detective Sergeant Neil Spowart said:- “The victim has sustained a number of serious and painful injuries and we are trying to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this incident.
“Anyone who was in the Hailesland Grove area on Friday afternoon and witnessed the attack or saw anything suspicious is asked to contact police immediately. In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to this investigation is also asked to get in touch.”
