Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a man with head injuries in Kings Stables Road around 2.15am this morning.
Emergency services responded and the man was taken by ambulance to the Western General Hospital where he is currently being treated for his injuries.
Officers have closed Kings Stables Road and Castle Terrace car park as they carry out an investigation, and have advised drivers to seek alternative routes,
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police Scotland Edinburgh Division are carrying out inquiries following the discovery of an injured man in the city’s Kings Stables Road early this morning.
“As a result both Kings Stables Road and Castle Terrace Car Park are currently closed and motorists are advised there will be traffic disruption in that area.
“The injured man has been taken to Western General Hospital. Inquiries are at an early stage.”
An update is expected later today.
