The Spartans Community Football Academy has run its Making Magic Memories as part of its community programmes since it opened in 2008 however a trip to Wembley for a group of local young people is up there amongst the greatest.
With support from the Tartan Army Children’s Charity, 10 young people, aged between 11 & 15 from the academy’s Friday FooTEA Club, and 2 academy youth workers attended the Auld Enemy clash between Scotland and England.
Despite the result, the young people had a great time, enjoying the big match atmosphere and of course, celebrating Scotland’s two goals.
Scotland Manager, Gordon Strachan, is patron of the Spartans Community Football Academy and Academy Community Programme Manager Kenny Cameron was proud to take the young people to watch a local lad, Strachan grew up in Muirhouse, lead his country out at one of world footballs most iconic venues.
Gordon grew up in the area and worked hard to achieve his goals. He’s gone from kicking a ball about the streets of North Edinburgh to manager of Scotland. We are hoping our young people will be inspired to chase their dreams and hope that we can support them along their journey.”
One of the Ambassadors, Michaela Macalonie aged 11, said:- “I was really excited and even nervous when I heard I was going to the game. I never thought I’d ever get to see Scotland at Wembley and the best bit was when we scored and everyone was jumping about mental, I was getting squashed but I’ll never forget it! I’ve just got into the school of football and the SFA regional academy and it’s my dream to play for Scotland too one day.”
