Police Scotland can confirm that two demonstrations taking place in Edinburgh have now concluded.

Around 130 members of the Scottish Defence League and 350 members of the United Against Fascism groups participated in respective marches and demonstrations, which culminated at the Scottish Parliament today.

Officers from across Scotland provided a significant presence within the city centre to ensure these events passed peacefully and to keep the public safe.

During the day four people were arrested for minor offences. However, disruption within the capital was kept to a minimum.

Police will continue their high-visibility patrols throughout the evening to engage with the public and offer reassurance and senior officers have thanked visitors and residents for their co-operation during the policing operation.

TER CS Mark WilliamsChief Superintendent Mark Williams, Divisional Commander for the City of Edinburgh said: “Robust planning with our partners was undertaken to ensure those wishing to protest could do so, while at the same time allowing daily business within the city to continue as normal.

“I would like to praise the Edinburgh public for their continued support and assistance throughout today.”
