Nominations are open for Edinburgh’s Inspiring Volunteering Awards only for a further week till 31 March 2013.
The Lord Provost of Edinburgh, the Rt Hon Donald Wilson will recognise some of the volunteers in the city at the beginning of June 2013, during Volunteers Week, at a special awards ceremony, and will make his own award of the Lord Provost’s Inspiring Volunteer of the Year Award.
This is the seventh year the awards have been made, and nominations for volunteers who should be recognised may come from many areas such as Arts, Culture & Heritage; Charity Shops; Environment & Conservation volunteering; Fundraising; Health & Social Care; Sports; and Organisational Governance, as well as special awards for outstanding contributions from a young volunteer (aged 11 – 25) and a long standing volunteer award for a volunteer contributing more than 10 years service to the same organisation.
The Lord Provost told The Reporter:-“There are thousands of dedicated and inspiring volunteers in Edinburgh selflessly giving up their own time to help and support others. These awards are simply one way of recognising some of their tremendous work, and the work of the charities who recruit and encourage them. Their contribution to the wellbeing of our city’s residents cannot be overstated.
“We received some outstanding nominations last year, and I expect some great volunteers to be put forward again this year. I would encourage all organisations that involve volunteers in their work to consider highlighting some of the good work that goes on by submitting a nomination.”
Make your own nomination online here. If you would like to know more about Volunteering in Edinburgh then have a look at this website here.
