Edinburgh rail passengers are reminded that an expanded timetable will come into force this Sunday.

The new timetable features a range of improvements for Edinburgh and the surrounding area, including:

· Two extra Sunday services from Edinburgh to Aberdeen, as well as an

additional service in the other direction

· A total of eight more services between Edinburgh and Dunbar on

Saturdays

· Journey times for Edinburgh-Inverness services being up to 16 minutes

faster as a result of new infrastructure works

· A new weekday service between Edinburgh and Glasgow Central via

Clydesdale– including Motherwell, Wishaw, Carluke, and Carstairs –

resulting in seven more trains a day

· A new Sunday service between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh via Shotts

· Weekday and Saturday mornings will see a new early morning train from

Motherwell to Edinburgh, via Shotts, and a late evening service in the

opposite direction, via Carstairs,

· A new later Edinburgh to Perth train, at 23.19 on Mondays to

Saturdays.

Steve Montgomery, ScotRail’s managing director, said: “We are providing real benefits for customers in Edinburgh and the surrounding areas by improving frequency, journey times and connections.”

Transport Minister Keith Brown said:- “These service enhancements for the Edinburgh area will encourage new passengers to travel by rail for commuting, education and leisure opportunities and help current passengers to get out earlier, stay out later and get around more frequently.”
