Gordon Wilson, Jr, is now halfway towards equalling a Northern Bowling Club legend by winning the men’s championship for the fourth time.

From 1956 to 1983 Jackie Christie, a Commonwealth Games gold medallist, won the club championship eight times at the Warriston based club.

In this year’s final Gordon defeated Andy Reid and is pictured receiving his trophy at the annual prize giving.

Gordon’s win meant he represented Northern in the Edinburgh Bowling Association’s ‘Champion of Champions’ Tait Trophy event where he finished runner-up to Darren Hush (Carrick Knowe).

The Northern ladies championship was won by Fiona Ord in her first season playing bowls and is regarded as a rising star of the sport.

On the team front the Northern 1sts gained promotion from Division Two while the 2nd XV1 gained a promotion. It was the club’s first double since 1992.

Also, the seniors retained the Edinburgh Senior Top 10 title.
