Fife Flyers’ nightmare continued when they were beaten 5-2 at arch rivals Dundee Stars in ice hockey’s Elite League, the damage done by a 3-0 first-period scoreline.
The Tayside team consolidated with a 1-0 win in the second 20 minutes and but Fife edged the final session 2-1 in a game in which they were outshot 55-24.
The 1,911 fans only had to wait eight minutes for the home side to go ahead, Alexander Tonge netting on a power play, and it was 2-0 after a power play counter from Brendan Harms just under five minutes later.
No 3 hit the net two minutes after that, this time it was Brett Gravelle who did the damage.
Fife’s coach, Tom Coolen, replaced starting netminder, Janis Voris, at the first break, Shane Owen going in, but he could not prevent Harms increasing the home side’s advantage after 30 minutes despite being short-handed.
Michael Cichy reduced the deficit in 43 minutes with Phelix Martineau popping in a second seven minutes after that but Philippe Sanche scored the home side’s fifth 55 second later to complete the scoring and increase their losing run to 12 games.
On Saturday, Fife lost 5-4 after overtime to Glasgow Clan at Kirkcaldy despite leading 2-1 early in the second period, the Braehead side’s captain, Deven Sideroff netting 3min 10sec into the extra session.
