Critical repairs to the gas network will begin on Monday 26 August. The repairs on the A7 between Old Dalkeith Road, Lady Road, and Dalkeith Road will mean the road is closed for eight weeks.

SGN say the work is essential to ensure a continued gas supply to surrounding homes and businesses in the area.

Due to the location of the gas pipes requiring emergency repairs, the utility company says it is “faced with engineering challenges”.

To ensure everyone’s safety while this work takes place and allow engineers to access the gas pipes, it is essential to close the westbound side of the A7 Cameron Toll roundabout for the duration of the project, estimated to take two months.

This means traffic will not be able to approach Cameron Toll roundabout from Lady Road, Peffermill Road or Old Dalkeith Road, heading to Dalkeith Road. Local diversion routes will be in place for motorists at all times, shown on the map below.

SGN Engineering Manager Russell De-Smet, said: “We know this is an extremely busy route and would urge motorists to plan aheadand allow more time for their journeys.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this will cause to motorists and the local community. While there is no ideal time to carry out work on the A7, it is critical that we repair our gas pipes.

“We’re aware the road surface at this location was recently resurfaced. Please be assured that when our emergency work is completed, we will ensure the road surface is left as we found it.”

There’s a dedicated project page on the SGN website, which can be found here: https://www.sgn.co.uk/our-gas-works/major-planned-projects/a7-cameron-toll-roundabout
