John Swinney arrived in Leith on Wednesday evening, the night before the General Election, to support the SNP candidate, Deidre Brock, and to warn what a UK Labour government will look like.

He said to the assembled crowd down by the Shore: “The Labour government is going to be elected, is a Labour government that’s going to maintain the same hard line on Brexit. The Labour Party that’s going to be elected, is going to maintain the presence of nuclear weapons on the Clyde.

“The Labour Party that’s going to be elected will keep the odious two child limit in place while they lift the cap on bankers’ bonuses. The Labour party that is going to be elected, is going to open the door to the privatisation of the National Health Service. And the Labour Party that’s going to be elected, is going to pick up with austerity, where the Conservatives are going to leave off tomorrow.

“So the real choice for people in Scotland is between a Labour party that’s determined to continue so much of what the Conservatives have done to damage the fabric of our society, whether it’s through public spending cuts, or the damage that’s been done to our economy and our public finances by Brexit, or the damage that’s done to families by keeping them in poverty because of the two child limit. That’s what the Labour Party will over and the SNP wants to make sure that does not happen.”

Mr Swinney then joined Ms Brock and some activists who were going round the doors to remind people to get out and vote on Thursday.
