Police Scotland conducted an Operation Close Pass at B800 South Queensferry yesterday Monday 1st July 2024.

Operation Close Pass sees a police officer cycling with a camera on their handlebars and the back of their bike.

When they are passed too closely by a car, the police cyclist radioes details to colleagues further up the road who pull over the motorist and direct them to a spot to talk to them about their driving.

The chat takes place by the roadside on a giant mat showing the correct minimum passing distance.

The driver would be given advice and if necessary, appropriate enforcement action would be taken.

This specific operation resulted in 10 vehicles being stopped, four drivers given chat on the mat and four given speed warnings.

Offences detected – Two vehicle defect tickets, one no MOT, one speeding, one dangerous driving, and one drink driving
