A rowan tree is to be planted at Whitehouse & Grange Bowling Club at exactly 14.30 + 47 seconds on Thursday 11 July signifying the exact time Eric Liddell won the 400 metres gold medal at the 1924 Paris Olympics in a world record time of 47 seconds.

The bowing club have established close ties with the Eric Liddell Community who are commemorating the achievements of the Scottish missionary, athlete and Scottish international rugby player.

Another example was the presence of Sue Caton, patron of the Eric Liddell Community, at the Hope Terrace, Grange, club to help Edinburgh Lord Provost Robert Aldridge plant a cherry tree as as part of Scotland’s Gardens Open Day.
