The consultation about which route the new tram extension between Granton and the BioQuarter will take, will be delayed due to “additional requirements”.

The Transport Convener, Cllr Scott Arthur has responded to Liberal Democrat Group Leader Cllr Kevin Lang’s enquiry about when the consultation would begin by explaining the position in some detail.

The council agreed on 1 February that it would take two routes – that via Roseburn to Granton and a second by way of Orchard Brae – to consultation.

But the committee also agreed that the option to install a high-quality walking and cycling route alongside the Roseburn Path would be explored. For that reason the date when the public will be asked for their views will be delayed.

The council has also agreed to market research to understand what a “demographically representative sample of Edinburgh feels about the plans”.

The possibility of protecting and improving the local ecological network as part of either route for the new tram extension is also to be investigated.
