Opera in Edinburgh

Edinburgh Studio with Edinburgh University Chamber Orchestra presents: Handel’s ‘Semele’ at the Pleasance Theatre, 27-30th March, 7:30

As gods and mortals collide, Handel’s genius shines in a whirlwind of baroque arias and choruses that are as dazzling as the powerful desires at the heart of the story. The forbidden love affair becomes a playground for exceptional vocal performances, each note weaving a spellbinding tale of ambition and consequence. The result is a mythological musical journey that proves messing with gods is never a dull affair. Pleasance Theatre, 27-30th March

New “happiness season” at Jupiter Artland revealed on the International Day of Happiness

A season of events, activities and workshops which celebrate creativity and inspire hope, lightness and joy will open the new season at Jupiter Artland next week. The Happiness Series creates moments for escape and dreaming together in the beautiful Jupiter Artland landscape.

Included are peaceful explorations of nature using sound, movement and meditation, to playful and imaginative creative activities. Take part in a laughter workshop or try out yoga with the resident goats. This series takes inspiration from Laura Aldridge and Andrew Sim’s joyful exhibitions, open from 11 May, featuring luscious colour, texture, rainbows and forests. From Easter weekend to the summer solstice celebration in June, visitors are also encouraged to book now for activities from wild swimming to artist workshops.

Wednesday 20 March is International Day of Happiness, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly to recognise the shared universal goal of happiness and wellbeing for all people. Across the season the team at Jupiter Artland will explore different perspectives on happiness as a powerful emotion

Jupiter Artland will reopen on Friday 29 March and is open seven days a week, until Sunday 29 September 2024.
