The group of Edinburgh Green councillors have announced that some of their colleagues will not be seeking re-election at next year’s elections in May.
Cllr Susan Rae, Green councillor for Leith Walk, and Cllr Jule Bandel, Green councillor for Inverleith, are both standing down at the end of this term on health grounds.

Cllr Claire Miller, Green councillor for City Centre, has confirmed that she will not stand for re-election, and Cllr Kayleigh Kinross-O’Neill MSP was elected as an MSP to the Scottish Parliament in May.

Cllr Alys Mumford, Edinburgh Green Group co-convenor, said: “I want to pay tribute to all my colleagues who are not seeking re-election next May. Susan has been a tower of strength in Leith Walk, and has been at the helm of Leith Chooses for many years. Her wry sense of humour and unique style will be sorely missed by the group and by many of her constituents. Jule led the Green group’s approach to transport, including some difficult negotiations around the tram route, and we are very sorry she will not be joining us again next year. The group are extremely grateful to Susan and Jule for all their hard work, and wish them both a speedy and full recovery.”
She continued: “I also want to thank Claire and Kayleigh for their contributions to the group over the years. After leading the group through the election, this term Claire has led our work on finance, economy, equalities, and health and social care with the detailed and conscientious approach with which she is well known throughout the council, and for which we’re extremely grateful.
“And while we were all delighted that Kayleigh was elected as an MSP in May, we will miss her contribution as transport lead, on equalities, and as co-convenor of the group for a year. The group wishes both Kayleigh and Claire all the best with the next stages of their careers.”
The branch has begun the selections to choose candidates for the 2027 local authority elections. The results are expected to be announced in early November.
