Gareth Chalmers, Glasgow Clan’s managing director, acknowledged the anger and frustration felt among the Purple Army after his men have lost seven league and cup games. And he declared: “It simply hasn’t been good enough.”

Chalmers said it had been a “disastrous” start and results and performances haven’t met expectations. Tough decisions will be made if needed, he said.

The statement to fans comes after Clan, coached by experienced Canadian Malcolm Cameron (pictured), now in his second year at the club, have skidded to defeat in their first four matches in the Premier Sports Elite League and their opening three in the Challenge Cup

Last weekend, they lost 6-3 at Cardiff Devils on Saturday and 6-3 at Manchester Storm on Sunday, both matches in the league.
Fans are continuing to support the club, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, home and away and Chalmers said: ” You continue to travel the length and breadth of the country. Your support is phenomenal and you certainly deserve the success we all crave.

“Like you, we are very disappointed at the start to our season. There is no way myself or the club as whole will sit there without taking action to produce a team that reflects the efforts and commitment that everyone made to save this hockey club during the pandemic and while the future of Braehead Arena was uncertain.

“With the success of the Arena now in mind and our ambitions for the club, we’re investing heavily on and off ice this season. Our expectations are that we should be competing in the top half of the (league) table.”

Chalmers said that he has lived and breathed Clan 24/7 for the past nine years and he added: “I have strived for us to be in a position off the ice to start competing for silverware and we expected this season to be the first of that new stage in the club’s progression. If we have to make changes to achieve those ambitions, rest assured difficult decisions will be made.”
