Today the Policy and Sustainability Committee meets for its fortnightly session.

On the agenda today there is a wide range of items but one in particular has attracted a lot of attention particularly in Colinton. The vexed matter of closed public toilets has attracted deputations from four separate groups in Colinton.

You can watch the meeting live here. It is also recorded for you to watch afterwards.

The council is due to take a decision on reopening some of these today. Read more here.

The other deputation relates to the reopening of community centres – which is probably going to be delayed until we are properly in Phase 3 of lockdown. This has caused some difficulties during the pandemic for community groups delivering food parcels and cooked meals to those in need, none more so in Magdalene where Rab Hogg and his team of volunteers have been assembling food outside in all weathers. Their tents were stolen and damaged at the end of May and although they have replaced what they had with a gazebo and a new hut, they could really do with getting into the community centre. They are working right outside it. The janitor from the school goes in each day to check on it, but the group who most need the facilities is kept out.

Although you can see the councillors taking part in the meeting, you cannot hear or see the deputations who put forward their views to the meeting, as would be normal in the City Chambers.

Here are the deputations:
