The Leith Conference will take place on 26 and 27 October 2019. It is a free event intended to be a forum where locals and community organisations can talk about key issues affecting life in Leith. This is not just all about bad things or complaints. It is also to discuss the positive aspects of living in the area.
In 2015, Leith Creative conducted a cultural mapping exercise in order to better understand Leith’s cultural resources and creative industries. They found that Leith is a unique area of concentrated cultural and creative activity.
In 2017, Leith Creative worked to bring a wider community together to talk about the future of the area. They spoke with over 2500 residents to find out what’s good, what’s bad and what they would do to make Leith better.
Building on this research and network of creative and community activity, in 2019 they are working again in partnership with local organisations to develop Making Places – a Local Place Plan for Leith.
Leith Creative is an independent place-based network of local residents, cultural and community organisations.
Founded as part of a cultural mapping project in 2015, the network expanded in 2017 and now supports a range of high-quality arts and community development activities.
