SGB Championship: Edinburgh Monarchs 60, Birmingham Brummies 30; Redcar Bears 48, Berwick Bandits 42

Alex Harkess, Edinburgh Monarchs’ team manager, believed he had enough in his side to beat Birmingham Brummies.

He was right as the Armadale-based combine blew Brummies away with a 60-30 scoreline.

Man of the Match Sam Masters top scored with 14 points and skipper Ricky Wells was next best with 12 and Josh Pickering collected 11 points.

The only down side was an injury to Cameron Heeps who could not avoid Brummies’ rider Jason Garrity who fell on the first bend of the last lap in Heat Four. Heeps went into the fence at great speed and did not take any further part in the meeting.

Adam Ellis was best for the overpowered visitors with nine points and ex-Berwick rider Tero Aarnio and Jason Garrity both scored seven points. Four other riders only scored seven between them on a dismal night

Elsewhere, Charles Wright claimed a 15-point maximum as Redcar Bears beat battling Berwick Bandits 48-42 on Teesside.

Former Edinburgh Monarchs skipper Eric Riss was next best for the high-flying home side with ten points.

Ex-Glasgow Tigers star Aaron Summers was Berwick’s top scorer with 11 but guest Nico Covatti performed well in earning nine points.

Earlier, Berwick held an 8-4 lead after two races but a 5-1 in Heat Six saw the home side edged ahead 19-17.

And Redcar kept their cool to stay in front and earn valuable points in their bid to make the end-of-season play-offs.
