Hibs’ Head Coach Neil Lennon believes that Martin Boyle’s international call up by the Caltex Socceroos will boost his confidence ahead of a busy period for the club.
Boyle had a sensational baptism for Australia, setting up the equaliser on his debut after coming on as a substitute then scoring a double and providing an assist in his first start and manager Graham Arnold has already been in touch with Lennon to thank him.
Hibs have nine games before the end of the year and Lennon insists that the players have to get back to wining ways and produce the form that they have demonstrated previously.
Bottom of the table Dundee visit Easter Road this afternoon and a large crowd is expected.
Lennon said: “Martin (Boyle) got a huge boost and it was a huge boost for the club. It shows the progression he has made over the last couple of years.
“It’ll do his confidence the world of good, playing at international level and scoring. He has already matched my international scoring record and I did it in 40 games! He only needs one more to beat me.
“It’s fantastic and we’re all really pleased for him. He’s made a huge impression. I got a text from Graham Arnold this morning thanking me and saying they were pleased with his performances.
“So long as he brings that form to us, that’s the main thing, because he’s been a bit off colour in the past couple of games. His mind was a little distracted.
“We have nine games between now and the end of the year and he is an important player for us. We need to get back to winning ways and the style of football we have shown over the last couple of years. We need all the players back and at it.”
